Austrian Christmas Magic

This holiday season join RTT on a special overnight adventure into the Alpine region of Austria. On this tour we experience the best of mountain Christmas, we cozy up in our Mountain Hotel crafting brewing our very own comforting winter punch, take a Horse drawn carriage ride, visit charming local Christmas Markets, dive into history as we dine like knights before us and take cable car ride to the mountain top for a musical mountain event. Day 1: Arrival in Austria

Our Hotel is nestled deep within the Eastern Austrian Alps, a hidden gem located in a sunny, Inner-Alpine high basin in southeastern Salzburg. After getting situated in our rooms, we dive right into Alpine traditions as the hosts invite you for a traditional taste of the region.  

Following a tasting of regional wines and loca spirits, we will transition to a buffet-style dinner at the hotel, allowing everyone to choose exactly what they are in the mood for—featuring, of course, authentic, traditional Austrian dishes.

Day 2: Cable Car – Local Mountain Christmas Markets

After breakfast provided by the Hotel we take a cable car ride up the local mountain to admire the mountain panorama in all its grandness and snow covered peaks from a birds eye view. After some ample free time, we take a scenic drive through the Lungau region to our first local Christmas market. Here, you will experience the full festive holiday atmosphere, while a horse-drawn carriage will be waiting for you alongside fresh-baked Christmas cookies and steaming mulled wine.

We will recharge with a group lunch before heading to the unique Mountain Advent market in Großarl. The scenic drive into the Großarl Valley is a true highlight, where you will be greeted by an enchanting Christmas atmosphere with authentic Austrian flair.

Day 3: Traditional Alpine Hut – Folk Music – Castle Feast

After breakfast provided by the Hotel, we will head up to an Rustic Alpine Hut, the Innkeeper will play traditional music and we will enjoy a traditional Brettljause (a hearty Austrian platter of local meats, cheeses, and spreads) while enjoying the spectacular panorama of the Dachstein mountain range.

Back in our village we will visit the historic Mauterndorf Castle. Here, you will experience the Middle Ages firsthand, discover fascinating facts about the castle's history, and be transported back in time. Afterward, we move on to the castle tavern, where a 5-course medieval knight’s feast awaits you. Complete with historical costumes and plenty of fun, you are in for an unforgettable evening.

Day 4: Salzburg Christmas magic

After breakfast, we check out and bid farewell to the Alps. Before crossing back into Germany, we have one final highlight: Salzburg. Famous for its stunning castle and historic monasteries, the city provides a magical backdrop for festive holiday cheer.

Enjoy free time to explore the Christmas Markets and decorated streets on foot or by a traditional horse-drawn carriage (Fiaker). Ride the funicular up to Fortress Hohensalzburg for panoramic views, or visit the birthplace of W. A. Mozart. As the sun sets, take a last stroll under a glowing sea of holiday lights weaving through the charming old town squares before it is time to wave good bye and return to Ramstein.
