Overview:
Nürnburg's
“Christkindlesmarkt” is thought to be the oldest Christmas market in Germany.
Here you will find some of the finest examples of German toy making on display.
It is also the home of the ever-famous Christmas Angel (exquisitely gowned in
foil and velvet), gingerbread, toys
and Zwetschgenmänner (prune people from
dried fruit that will last for years), meter-long hot dogs and other delightful
items.
Since the fifteenth century the famous Rothenburg “Christkindlesmarkt” has
turned its medieval city into a winter fairy tale. This market, held
beneath the twin towers and illuminated choir windows of the St. James church,
looks back on a 500 year history that is virtually unchanged.
Besides the market stalls and the magnificent original Käthe
Wohlfahrt store and museum, Rothenburg’s famous views, city ramparts,
churches and other museums await your visit!
