Overview:
For a two week period in May and June,
Prague has prepared a selection of the best from Czech breweries, Czech chefs,
butchers and bakers. More than 70 brands of fresh beers are presented for
tasting, always in top quality. Not only beers from large breweries are on hand,
but those from regional breweries and micro-breweries are on draft, too.
Hundreds of young adults in Czech national costumes are your servers in an
unparalleled atmosphere of large-scale tents.
Each tent has its own stage with colourful
entertainment programs. The Czech Beer Festival has its own currency, too. The
beer “tolar” helps to speed the payment process and the service provided to the
attendees. Enjoy reserved seats and your own starter packet of tolars to enjoy
the Beer Festival food and beverages.
In “Golden Prague”, the city of Slavic legends comes alive as you join a local
guide for a walking tour around the Castle, Cathedral and Old Town. From atop
the hill at the castle you will see the “Golden Prague”, with over 500 church
spires and the silvery winding ribbon of the Vltava River. Prague’s castle is
the largest preserved fortress from the middle ages in all of Europe. Personal
time can be spent wandering off the beaten track into Prague’s side streets and
courtyards, or into the old Jewish Quarter, and many of the city’s churches.
Perhaps you will be tempted by the crystal and garnet shops, or the windows full
of traditionally painted eggs and unique table linens. Street musicians and
performers liven the atmosphere – so be sure to keep some change available! On
top of this, the Beer Festival beckons!
After experiencing all that Prague has to offer, visit Pilsen, home of the
original pilsner beers and still a major producer of Czech brews. Pilsen is
proud of associations with American visitors as the city was liberated from the
Nazi occupation by the 16th Armored Division of Patton’s 3rd Army on 6 June,
1945. The annual Liberation Festival draws many visitors from the United States.
Tour the Pilsner Urquell brewery, with a sample of their beer. A refreshing
lunch provides fortification for the short tour in the old town and the bus ride
back to the point of origin.
