Overview:
One of the largest and most traditional public festivals in Germany – now in
its 595th year! Let RTT Travel be your “designated driver” and
join us for this
annual Rhineland Pfalz celebration
of live musical entertainment, locally made wine, beer and sausages as well as
the normal trimmings German carnivals and festivals are famous for!
Itinerary:
Travel directly to Bad Duerkheim for an evening of festival entertainment. The
Bad Duerkheim Wurstmarkt is one of the largest and most traditional public
festivals in Germany. It is over 590 years old, and still as young as ever –
the main event of the year in the Pfalz. The entertainment, along with the
wine, is one of the distinctive features of the festival. You can enjoy over 150
different wines in over 50 places – from the mellow Riesling to the finest
icewein, and from large wine halls to small traditional wooden stands and the
cozy “wine village”. (If you aren’t a wine drinker, German beer is also
available.)
Tents and stages provide musical entertainment for various tastes and the
young, and young-at-heart, find plenty to move to. The carnival attractions
shine their lights and entice riders and players until late into the evening.
Although the Duerkheim wine is the center of attraction, the Wurstmarkt would be
unthinkable without its travelling fairground – fun for the entire family.
Why not take time out between glasses to enjoy a short
walk to the Michaelskapelle (St. Michael's Chapel) which sits on the
Michaelsberg above the market? Up until the 15th century, pilgrims
walked up the hill on St. Michael's Day and this is the origin of the Wurstmarkt
festival.
Tradition and wine - two things which best express the affection for the Pfalz
felt by its natives. As the local poet Karl Räder put it: "The Wurstmarkt is the
only festival where you meet old friends you've never seen before". Come and

Leave the Wurstmarkt around 11 p.m. to allow as much time as possible to enjoy
