Overniew: From the unspoiled medieval town to Bruges to the bustling
metropolis of Belgium and Europe’s capital in Brussels, this tour includes
the best historical and modern delights of Belgian culture. Architecture,
chocolates and lace point to the crafts which have kept Belgium on the map
world-wide – along with its European harbors and political significance.
Day 1: Travel from various pick up points to Brussels. Narrow cobbled
streets open suddenly into the breathtaking Grand Square, with its ornate
guild houses, impressive Town Hall and buzzing atmosphere. By bus we will
take a look at the Atomium, which represents an iron molecule 165 billion
times larger than its real size. See the Chinese Pavilion, the Royal Palace,
the Arc de Triomphe, the Palace of Justice. The European Parliament also
found its home in Brussels. A short walking tour will introduce you to the
historical city center around the Grand Square. From here it is just a
couple steps to see the famous Manneken Pis statue. The city tour is
followed by hotel check in. After the tour, enjoy free time to stop at one
of the numerous restaurants or do some shopping for Belgian chocolate,
tapestry and lace. Your tour guide will be able to give suggestions for
dinner and evening activities.
Day 2: After breakfast (included), board the bus for a change of
venue! The day will start with a sightseeing tour of Bruges, also known
as the “Venice of the North”. Today Bruges is one of the most beautifully
preserved medieval cities in Europe! Its charming streets and canals are
packed with little restaurants and atmospheric cafes. Our day in Bruges
begins with a city tour to see the major sightseeing points of interest in
this city of west Flanders. Bruges looks like the stage of a fairy tale play
– hardly a modern building disturbs the total picture. Colorful canals,
narrow alleys, churches and patrician houses, lovingly restored facades and
museums full of art treasures awaken today’s travelers to the historic
“Pearl of the Middle Ages”. See the magnificent bell tower called Belfort,
the market square with the Provincial palace, the Holy Blood Basilica, the
famous marble Madonna by Michelangelo, the Beguines convent, the Lake of
Love and much, much more! Free time allows you to shop and grab a bite to
eat. Depart Bruges at about 3:30 p.m. with a stop for refreshments en
route, and return to points of origin about 2200 hrs.
