Overview: Castles and mountains, dirndls, window boxes – and WINES!
Germany’s wines are famous world-wide. One of the most famous wines is the
Zeller Schwartzkatz – the Black Cat from Zell on the Mosel – wearing a black
cat figure around the neck of the bottle.
The town of Zell - on a sharp curve of the Mosel River - really
knows how to celebrate their wine, and the culture of the region at the same
time! With over 6 million vines, this is the largest wine producing area in
the Mosel district. It has thousands of vacation homes, 24 towns and the
Hunsruck mountains for recreation and wonderful views.
Itinerary: Depart mid-day from the Kaiserslautern area and arrive in Zell by
mid-afternoon to enjoy the wine fest atmosphere. At 4 p.m. the afternoon
festival parade gets underway with costumed participants, distinctive wine
glasses, live music groups and fantastic themed floats. The afternoon and
evening continues with colorful musical programs in the center of the
festivities, tasty regional specialties, and – as darkness falls on the
Mosel River - a sky-high firework extravaganza in the heavens over Zell.
RTT departs from points of origin and arrives in Zell in time to
enjoy some of the festivities and the cultural atmosphere before the
organized activities begin. After it’s all over – and your feet want to turn
you back homewards – RTT will get you there, safe and sound. Return to
points of origin at about 0130 on 30 June (Monday).
