Overview:
Nestled in the Mosel Valley behind a few rocky hills is the charming
town of Cochem. This quaint town has something for everyone. Discover
the fairy tale Castle Reichsburg. Perched on a hill 100 meters above the
Mosel River, this castles history dates back to 1000 AD. and the local
legend claims it to be the "Sleeping Beauty" castle.
After a guided tour you will take part in an authentic medieval feast.
The Lord of the Manor will welcome you with a goblet of Moselle wine and
make you familiar with medieval customs and table manners. Servants and
maids in period costumes serve you lavishly and pass you water to wash
yours hands so that you can eat with your fingers. Bread and lard make
the rounds while a hot and spicy soup is steaming in the cookery pot.
Huge turkey drum sticks are served for the main course. Jesters in
medieval outfits provide entertainment and authentic music. Old "torture
instruments" are displayed, and the evening climaxes with the
traditional knighting ceremony. The feast comes to an end with cheese,
grapes, nuts and biscuits and the servants bring you water to wash your
hands after "good fare and excellent wine".
Even though you may have travelled all over the world and eaten in the
most basic or most exclusive restaurants, this kind of feasting will be
an experience you'll never forget. It is simply an adventure that must
be experienced. Go on a journey back to the Middle Ages when the Lord of
the Manor declared to his servants and maids: Let the banquet begin.
Itinerary:
After arriving in Cochem, we will walk up to the castle and go in for an
informative tour by an English speaking guide, followed by a medieval
style dinner in the Knights Dining Room. Dinner consists of rye bread
with schwein schmalz (spiced pork fat, a local spread), beef soup, a
turkey leg, flat bread, cheese, nuts and grapes. Wine will be served in
a wine mug which you take home as souvenir from this exciting evening.
Beer and non-alcoholic beverages of any nature will also be available.
During the meal you are be entertained with stories about medieval table
manners and eating habits and songs by traveling minstrels. The
highlight of the evening will be the Knight Games, with lots of fun
everyone.
