Overview: Neuschwanstein  Castle is nestled in the incomparable beauty of Germany’s Bavarian region – a “must see” on any European visit!  Product of a king who was at once mysterious and lonely, this castle never fails to evoke imaginings of opulence and festivity.  Arrival with reserved tickets guarantees admission on days packed with international visitors.

Seven weeks after King Ludwig’s death (from causes unknown), the Neuschwanstein Castle was opened to the public.  The shy king had built the castle to withdraw from public life – now vast numbers of people come to view his private refuge.  The castle, constructed to shelter Ludwig and his favorite poet-composer Richard Wagner, became Ludwig’s symbol of sovereignty as Bavaria was forced into political insignificance.

A visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp memorial is a no-nonsense arrival to the stark reality of Bavaria six decades ago.  Through a film and an audio-guided visit to sites where people suffered you will have an appreciation of the atrocities which took place there.

Leisurely driving through the Bavarian countryside allows our guests to enjoy the varied landscape – from majestic mountains to farming villages and fields with haystacks and tiny barns.

Itinerary:  We depart in the early morning hours to allow plenty of time for traffic before we arrive at the foot of the castle.  A breakfast stop can usually be provided en route (Euros required).  You personally choose how to arrive at the castle doors: on foot, by horse carriage (not included), or by bus (not included). After the guided castle visit, there is ample free time for taking photos, more castle visits (to Hohenschwangau, for example), shopping, or lunch opportunities.

After noon, the tour proceeds in the direction of Dachau, across the picturesque Bavarian countryside.  The 2 hour stay at Dachau includes an opportunity to view the film and walk the audio-guided tour.  Do it at your own pace with the audio guide to have your personal experience of Dachau!

At about 5 p.m. the bus sets out for the return to points of origin, with a stop for refreshments en route.  Approximate return: 2230 hrs.
