Overview: Ah, Berlin! It just isn’t what it used to be! Those who haven’t
visited Berlin in the past few years are missing out on a wonderful chance
to enjoy the consolidated city with everything a national capital must have:
historical monuments and museums, a vivacious entertainment scene,
multilingual cinemas, shopping for every pocketbook and enough green space
to astound and delight visitors! This tour covers the areas of the former
East and West Berlin, Potsdam and Sanssouci Palace.
Reside in an upper middle-class hotel, just a stone’s throw from the
Kurfuerstendamm and a short walk from KaDeWe, Berlin’s premier shopping
house!
Day 1: Travel directly to Berlin, with rest stops en route for a stretch
and meals (not included) to relieve the bus journey. Arrival around mid-day
in Berlin and city orientation tour of West Berlin with a local guide. Hotel
check in follows mid-afternoon. After a chance to freshen up, the evening is
free to enjoy some of the sights on the Ku’damm, the Berlin Zoo, or other
points of interest. Of course, the RTT guide will have suggestions for
points of interest. Berlin’s underground transportation system is easy to
use and inexpensive, making it a great way to see a lot in a short time.
Overnight in your downtown hotel.
Day 2: After a nice breakfast, a local guide describes the people, places
and events related to East Berlin during a bus and walking tour. Take a
break for lunch by the Spree River (included, with one non-alcoholic
beverage) before driving to neighboring Potsdam. Binding Potsdam to Berlin
is the famous Glienicke Bridge. In Potsdam, important neighborhoods are
dedicated to former English, Dutch, Russian and Prussian inhabitants. These
areas have their distinctive architecture and regal buildings, but none can
match the elegance and gardens of the Sanssouci Palace, summer palace for
Frederick the Great. Tour some of the exquisite rooms of the palace and the
park grounds to appreciate the “trouble-free” world created for the King.
Return by bus to the Berlin hotel for the overnight and an evening of time
free for personal pursuits.
Day 3:
Enjoy your
hotel breakfast and some free time before an early afternoon departure for
points of origin, with arrival before midnight.
